Castlegar Sculpturewalk’s Night of Fire is a free, family-friendly event where we present our annual awards and celebrate our year-end and the festive season. Our vision behind this project is to connect individuals to their creativity and to each other through participation in a powerful communal event which celebrates beauty, creation, metamorphosis, and rebirth.
A celebration of artistry and community spirit, this event is a safe place for peoples of all cultures, genders, ages and abilities.
Kicking off with seasonal holiday tunes from the Brass Carolers, it will follow with the presentation of our Awards, and followed by the burning of a large custom-built fantastical sculpture created by former People’s Choice winners, Argenta artists Spring Shine, Christopher Petersen & Yvonne Boyd.
This Informational Guide is here to provide the information you need to ensure you enjoy our event and come prepared. If you need additional information, please email us at info@castlegarsculpturewalk.com.

Awards Info:
Deputy Mayor Brian Bogle will present our 2024 Awards Winners: the People’s Choice Award, voted on by the people, will take home a cash prize of $2000 and will have their sculpture purchased by the City of Castlegar for the community’s permanent collection. Additional cash prizes of $1000 (second place) and $500 (third place) will be awarded in the People’s Choice category. The Artistic Merit category is adjudicated by a jury of artist peers, with the top award receiving $2000, $1000 for second place, and $500 for third.
Raffle: The artists have created a wonderful sculpture to be raffled off - it will only be revealed once the large sculpture is burned. With a value of $500, tickets will be available on-site only for purchase: 5 for $10 or 10 for $20. The winner will be announced once the burn is complete, so ticket purchasers will need to stay around for this. Proceeds from the raffle go to the artists to cover their hard costs, and then to Castlegar Sculpturewalk to go into our general operating budget.

What to expect: We will be burning a large sculpture (approximately 15 to 20 foot high) on the site, and the flames can reach double this height. We will ensure that people are standing far enough away from the fire to be safe and the fire department will be present, but please be aware that if you have children we recommend more distance than usual and that you keep your children near you. Floating embers will be present so please ensure you aren’t wearing or carrying anything highly flammable. As there will be crowds of people, there will be quite a bit of noise (we recommend headphones for those who might find this too loud).
-
Weather: this event is held in December and we can expect cold, wet and/or snowy weather. Please dress accordingly to keep warm, we recommend snow jackets, boots and mitts!
-
Washrooms: there are no washrooms available
-
Seating: there is no provided seating. If you would like to sit we recommend you bring your own folding chairs.
-
Food/Refreshments: these are not provided, however you are welcome to bring your own. We recommend hot chocolate as the evening may be cold!
-
Accessibility: the outdoor nature of the event and the possibility of wet ground and/or snow means that accessibility is limited for those who require mobility aids. If you require assistance, we would be happy to work with you to find a way we can create a special parking area and potentially construct a more level surface for you to get closer to the event. There are short speeches and the awards presentation at the beginning of the event. We do not have ASL interpretation available though we can look to provide this if you require (please let us know at least two weeks prior to the event).
