Winlaw-based Peter Vogelaar has been an artist for most of his life, graduating in 1976 from the Kootenay School of the Arts. After a stint of running his sign business up north, he returned to the Kootenays, taking up snow, ice and sand sculpting, a practice which has led him around the world to competitions and festivals. For the past decade he's been creating permanent works in concrete, steel and mosaic, winning the 2022 People's Choice award for his sculpture "Murmuration".
